Paris, Jules Rouff et Cie, [1900].
4to (265x180 mm), (4)-756-vii-(1) pages. binding : Full cloth from the publisher. Spine repaired. Binding a little soiled. Enpapers renewed. Paper slightly browned.
First edition. First volume of the series devoted by Jaurès to the history of socialism. This first part is dedicated to the constituent assembly covering the revolutionary period 1789-1791.
Beautiful autograph dedication of Jaurès on the false title to "Charles Guyeisse and the free pages". Charles Guieysse became a socialist activist at the turn of the 19th century, in 1901 he founded the journal Pages Libres, a small 24-page weekly review under the sign of Dreyfusism.
